Cappadocia is a historical region in the heartland Cappadocia is a historical region in the heartland of Turkey. This place truly resonates with Mirangiz’s values and interests and has impacted her greatly as a Landscape Designer, working to become a Landscape Architect. Cappadocia is a region of exceptional natural wonders, characterized by unique geological, historical, and cultural features. Cappadocia’s landscape includes dramatic expanses of soft volcanic rock, shaped by erosion into towers, cones, valleys and caves.

Now, Cappadocia is a popular tourist destination. It is famous for its hot-air balloon rides, trekking sites, horseback riding, festivals, historic mansions, cave houses, and antique shops.
Mirangiz loves visiting Cappadocia and feeling a sense of place. “As a multicultural individual and designer, I believe there is a great power in heritage and culture. Being exposed to different cultures and places, gives me multiple perspectives and ideas, which inspire my designs. Diversity is key to creativity” - Mirangiz Hamidullah

Walter Kehm, an internationally recognized Landsca Walter Kehm, an internationally recognized Landscape Architect, published a book called “Accidental Wilderness” which is a collection of essays on the origins and ecology of Toronto’s Tommy Thompson Park. “In park planning and design we usually start with the needs and wants of people.” Says Walter, “When designing with nature we have to understand the behaviours and needs of the fauna and flora that will inhabit the site in time.” Walter said his perpetual curiosity and fascination with nature as a child led him into the field of Landscape Architecture. When designing Tommy Thompson Park, Walter was intrigued by the park’s biological evolution in an urban setting and its effects on people. “The appeal of the park as a natural refuge is that it makes one feel at home just as perceived by the birds and animals” says Walter.

The Inhotim Museum in Brazil is a place that has l The Inhotim Museum in Brazil is a place that has largely influenced Carolina throughout her career and life. Home to one of the largest foundations of contemporary art in Brazil and one of the largest outdoor art centers in Latin America, Inhotim was founded by the former mining magnate Bernardo Paz in 2004 to house his personal art collection. It was opened to the public a couple years later.

Inhotim is mostly located in the biome of the Atlantic Forest, within a natural heritage site. The ecological features present on site make the experience at Inhotim even more remarkable.

Visiting Inhotim had a great impact in Carolina’s professional life, "Being an architect by formation, a landscape designer by practice and a life-long admirer of art, I consider Inhotim an epitome of architecture, landscape and art." - Carolina Schmitz

The publication that shaped and continues to guide The publication that shaped and continues to guide Brad’s career in Landscape Architecture is “The New Landscape Declaration” by the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF). The book is centered around the LAF’s 50th anniversary and a Summit on Landscape Architecture and the Future that was held on June 2016 with over 700 designers from across the globe. The LAF asked a diverse group of distinguished leaders in the industry to write their own “declarations”, reflecting on critical issues pertaining to the profession, such as climate change, urbanization, and global inequity.

"This Declaration is a call to action for all landscape architects- including myself" says Brad "Our profession is at the forefront of climate resiliency, equality, change, and so much more. This book teaches and reminds me how important my career as a landscape architect is"

The Gardens of Versailles is a place that Haig has The Gardens of Versailles is a place that Haig has been to many times in his life and it has impacted him greatly as a landscape architect. Designed by André Le Nôtre, who was the principal gardener to King Louis XIV of France, and known as the king of gardeners, Le Nôtre made Versailles his greatest masterpiece. Nôtre was famous for his extravagant flowerbed designs and groundbreaking optical illusions. The Latona Fountain was also designed by Le Nôtre and sculpted by Gaspard and Balthazard Marsy. The fountain portrays a Latin Poem by the Roman poet, Ovid, called metamorphosis. “Visiting and re-visiting this spectacular site over the years gives me constant inspiration to continue my work as a Landscape Architect!” - Haig Seferian Photo credit for 2nd photo: HarshLight licensed under CC BY 2.0
